I love music.I think we all love music here. But I'm not one that loves all types. Some I just don't like or can't stand. It's not my fault,it's just how I feel towards some types and genres of music.I've been playing guitar for about seven years and I have the talent for it.My genre of choice is Metal.Especially when it's melodic, and powerful, and catchy.

Hardcore started off as a great genre until it got overflowed.Actually, there are still really great HxC bands,it's just most of them are just a copy of a copy of a copy.In order to use Hardcore, you have to bring originality.Which can be said for any genre of music.I never want(ed) to be in a Hardcore band. But elements like the breakdowns I felt would go good with my sound. Now I've met countless musicians and they've all told me that I have an original sound and style. But when it came to finding a band or starting one, nobody seemed worth the effort.Didn't have their hearts in it.So when a good friend of mine, who happens to be an amazing and talented drummer, calls me and says that he's moving back home, and he's starting a band. The plan was to try and get all the best local musicians together for our styles, and give it a shot.So he practically begged me to join.I'm a very good writer. And he knows that the band working my riffs would be tight.

Now here's my problem...

This band is a HUGE opportunity for me.I've been working on songs alone for years and they are beast tunes! And the the other guitarist on board was really digging my material. We all agreed to have equal parts in writing and the whole creative aspect. However when it finally came to my attention that this other guitarist, who I was told over and over was a HxC guitarist, was a southern Hardcore guitarist,I nearly fainted, haha!I cannot stand the sound of southern rock, country,or anything like that.I've literally puked because a good friend of mine was playing lynard skynard all day and the sound messed with me!no joke! And they want to incororate some southern sound into our songs...most of which were all written by me up to that point! My friend, the drummer, told me that we need the originality and the mix in order to stick out,and I said not with that sound. He thinks I'm crazy, but southy doesn't mix with my style at all...We can make it work, but I feel like all that time and effort put into my music just to let it get ruined for me by a sound I very much dislike, would be in vain.

The advice I need is...

Should I suck it up and let this happen,or give up this great oportunity because of big creative differences?

I apoligise if you happen to like southern style,I mean no offense. It's just differences in tastes.

I think you should at least give it a try.  Maybe something you actually like will come out of this.  Mixing genres can make a true unique sound.  Just make sure the end product is something the whole band can groove to.  Good luck!
A&R Reps only sign bands who have numbers to back them up.
