Ok... so you did all the hard work. You practiced for YEARS, networked and found some friends who compliment your style of playing and formed a band. Congrats! Now what!?
Well... now you need to get a website online. Send me a message if you need help building or marketing your bands presence online.
Let's just say you have a website and want people from all over the world, or just your country to get more familiar with your music. Thats promotion and marketing.
I've run into a ton of scam sites (like the ones on popular ebay type sites) that will sell you traffic to your website however its just a server spitting fake visits to your website all day long. This can hurt your sites rankings and sure doesnt help any other than to drain your wallet.
So what do you do then if thats out? The best thing would be to use the social networks like facebook, myspace, youtube and upload your songs you are promoting there to gain a following.
But don't get lazy and let that be the only way you promote your songs. Good old networking still works. Contact music magazines and newspaper outlets to try and get reviews, apply for local music contests and awards... Anything (within reason) to get your name out there more.
Lastly you could even pay websites like Google, yahoo and other search engines to help you rank higher up the result list when someone types in your band name or a similar phrase. This is tricky and costly. Its better to get a website done the right way from the beginning and will cost you a lot less in the long run.
One tip I use is this site that if you sign up with them, they give you credits that you can use to promote your website. All you have to do is to view other peoples sites to get credits. I like this approach and its free. You can buy credits if you like too but its up to you. Its just another way to promote your site.
Think of a great big city and many roads leading in to it... Your website is that city. The more roads you put going into it the more visitors you will potentially get. Who just might like your music, band and get you arecord deal or customers to buy your cds!
Heres the link to that website I mentioned:
